Lonnie
Timmons III
U.S.A
Award-winning
photographer Lonnie Timmons III started photographing jazz musicians
in 1989 soon after he bought his first jazz album, Miles Davis's
Kind of Blue. That ground-breaking recording is beautiful, spare
and spacious something that is reflected in the photographs. He
was attracted to jazz music because of its emotions and started
photographing jazz musicians to document that suspended in time.
Timmons has photographed hundreds of jazz musicians at jazz festivals and concerts
in the US and Canada. He has
captured pensive moments, or the intensity of veterans such as Art Taylor in
a peak moment. He has photographed
performers Nat Adderly to Willie Williams and Harry Anderson early in their
career as they developed to masters such as Herbie Hancock. He now counts Wallace
Roney and Miles Davis as among his favorite musicians.
Lonnie Timmons III has worked as a staff photojournalist for major metropolitan
newspapers around the country, and has
been published in prestigious jazz magazines such as Swing Journal and Jazziz.
Currently, he works for the largest
newspaper in Ohio.
